5 Options for Getting Rid of a Car You No Longer Drive

On July 25th, 2020       By Avtar Tamber

Did you keep an older car when you got your new one because you still drove it to work or downtown Toronto so you didn’t have to worry if the door got dinged, or the car got damaged? Yet, now, with COVID-19, and more people working from home, you might no longer need that older car or use it for the reasons you initially decided to keep it.

How do you get rid of it now? Luckily, you still have several options on different ways you can get rid of the car no matter its current condition.

Option #1: Sell It to Auto Scrappers

The fastest, easiest, and quickest way to get rid of the older car is to sell it to us. It just takes a few minutes to fill out our online form. Once we receive it, we will contact you with an offer price. If you like our offer, we proceed with the sale and make arrangements to pick up the vehicle from your home.

If you are interested in this option, fill out our form now. Just remember the car title has to be clear and free of any liens.

Option #2: Donate the Car to a Non-Profit

There are several non-profit organizations that would be happy to accept a car donation. You do need to check to see what condition the vehicle needs to be in. Several organizations do require the car to be in drivable condition to accept. You may even qualify for a tax deduction when filing your taxes from your car donation.

Option #3: Sell It Yourself

You could list it online and in the newspaper. However, selling the car yourself can be more work than it is worth. With COVID-19 around, you must take extra precautions when showing the car and letting people test drive it. Plus, you must clean and sanitize the vehicle after each person looks at it or drives it.

Option #4: Trade It In

Our used car dealer network can take your car in for a trade against a newer used car.  This way you will also be able to take advantage of HST saving. Contact our used car representative at 416-951-1437 for more information

Option #5: Give It to Your Teenager

If you have a teenager that is going to start driving, it is better to give them a used car than a new one. Plus, the car insurance will be less on an older model vehicle. If you don’t have kids of your own, maybe you have a teenaged niece or nephew that wants a car.

As you can see, some of your options can put extra cash in your pocket or allow you to get a brand new vehicle, while others can just make you feel good for doing something nice.

If you want to see how much your car is worth and how much cash you could get for it, fill out our online quote request form or contact Auto Scrappers at (647) 766-2292 today!
